The CFDFpromo story: from selling promotional products to building the platform behind them
We produced promotional products. Then we distributed them. Then we built the software to survive the admin, and that software became the business. The story, and what it means for your shop.
Most software for our industry is built by software people who studied the industry. CFDFpromo was built the other way around. We produced promotional products, we distributed them, and we felt every hour the admin stole. The platform exists because we needed it first.
Where we started: producing promotional products
We began in production. Garments, decoration, branded merchandise, the physical work of getting a logo onto a product and out the door. You learn things there you cannot learn from a spec sheet: how an imprint area behaves on a real garment, why a stitch count changes a price, what a rush job does to a week.
That is also where we met the real cost of the business, and it was not the printing. It was the typing. Quotes typed out by hand. Mock-ups drawn from scratch. Orders re-keyed into accounting. Artwork approvals chased by email. Payment chased after that.
Then distribution, and the same problem at a bigger scale
As distributors, the catalog got bigger, the client list got bigger, and every one of those manual steps multiplied. A client would ask for the same fifty polos they ordered last spring, and it would still take a quote, a mock-up, an approval and a purchase order to get there. Nothing about that repeat order should have needed a human at all.
We looked at the software available for shops like ours. Good tools existed. They still do, and we say so plainly in our comparison of InkSoft, Printavo and DecoNetwork. What none of them solved was the part that actually stops shops: someone still has to set the whole thing up, and keep it set up.
So we invested in the web, heavily
We put years into web development instead of buying another subscription: online stores our clients could use without training, a mock-up tool that places a logo in the real imprint area with the price attached, catalogs connected to suppliers, approvals that turn into orders, automations that moved data between systems so nobody had to retype it.
It worked well enough that other decorators and distributors started asking us to build theirs.
The decision: stop selling promo, start serving the people who do
At some point we had to choose. We were a promotional products company with unusually good software, or we were a software and service company for the promotional products industry. Doing both well was not possible, and half-doing either was not interesting.
We stopped selling promotional products. Today we do not compete with our users for a single order. Everything we build goes to decorators, printers and distributors, which also means our incentives are simple: your stores have to sell, or we have no business.
We are not a vendor who read a case study about your industry. We ran the production floor, we ran the distribution, and we built the fix for the parts that hurt. When you describe your problem, you do not start from scratch.
What CFDFpromo is today
We are the web agency for the promotional industry. We build and run the whole platform for print shops and promo distributors:
- Branded online stores for each of your clients, designed and launched for you.
- Supplier catalogs connected, so products, sizes and colours arrive without retyping.
- Real mock-ups: your client's logo in the decorator's actual imprint area, with the price attached.
- AI automations that remove the repeated actions between quoting, ordering, approving and invoicing.
- Data, reports, SEO and training, in English and French.
We are an official supplier on SAGE and ASI, so nobody has to abandon the tools they already use to work with us. And we publish free tools for the industry, like the Money-Leak Audit and the Artwork Checker and vectorizer, because the fastest way to prove we understand the work is to fix a piece of it for free.
Where we are going
Two directions, and both point at the same outcome: your team spending its hours on promotional products instead of on administration.
The first is AI automation. Not a chatbot on a website. Agents that do the repeated work of a shop: reading an order email and creating the job, building the quote from supplier pricing, chasing the approval, updating the client, pushing clean data to accounting. If an action repeats, we want it automated.
The second is turnkey speed. Setting up a platform used to take weeks of a shop owner's evenings. We now do the full setup for you, with our own AI agents doing the filling and configuring: store design, product integration, taxes, supplier markups, decoration methods and decoration price lists. Your first store is deployed within 48 business hours of receiving your assets, and the full platform is set up within 7 days.

- We made promotional products, so we know the work.
- We distributed them, so we know where the hours go.
- We built the platform to survive it, and it became the business.
- We serve decorators and distributors only, and never compete with them.
- Turnkey setup and AI automation are where we are investing next.
